Rolling out the Red Carpet for Bloggers - NuffNang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards

It’s official! Bloggers are new age celebrities.  I was lucky to be invited to experience the very first NuffNang Asia Pacific blog awards night held at Singapore (Pan Pacific) last October 23, 2009. They flew in bloggers from Philippines and Australia - Malaysian and Singaporean bloggers probably just took the bus. :)  There were hundreds of bloggers who joined in on this historical event.

Nuff Nang and their sponsors (Pringles, Canon, etc) was kind enough to treat us on a 3 day, 2 night stay at the Link Hotel.  Here are some pictures:

Pretty decent and it’s free so YEAH!

You can see that all the bloggers were excited and every one was chatting and talking about their blogs.  A lot of stories on how they started their own blogs were exchanged.  FAQs between the guests:

  • Are you a Blogger?
  • What Blog?  What about?
  • How and when did you start?
  • Full time or part time?
  • Traffic?
  • And of course, how’s the payout so far? (ha ha ha)

The blog awards was a black tie event (sosyal) so you can just imagine how prestigious it was.  The bloggers were treated like true celebrities (they are), cameras flashing everywhere.

Check it out:

I’ll talk about the food on my food blog (*wink)…

Bottom line - huge success.  Congratulations to NuffNang!

One Filipino won - Travel blog category: Ironwulf.  Great guy!  Congrats pare.

A blogger from Singapore dominated the event - XiaXue xiaxue.blogspot.com (hosted on blogspot - see, we can all win!).

Ramon Bautista (one of our local celebs) was also there but not as a blogger but as a guest of one of the bloggers.  He was pretty excited to start his own blog… so now he has ramonbautista.tumblr.com. I’m helping him out so expect to see big improvements on his tumblr setup.

Final notes:

  • Sayang, no booze during the event.  It was probably because liquor is quite expensive in Singapore (spent SG$150 on booze the following day - brewerkz) or because there were bloggers who were still minors.  I dunno :)  Pero pag pinas, dapat meron.
  • Oh and the founders of Nuff Nang were quite young and had big smiles on their faces the whole night.
  • The following day, we were treated to a tour of Singapore - I’ll post that on my travel blog (naks!)

  • Fried Hokkien mi is the BEST and Beef Rendang.

In Malaysia and Singapore blogging is huge.  Here in the Philippines, we have a long way to go.  I think we can be as big so feel free to reblog this and spread the word.  We only bagged one category and if you guys were there, I’m sure you’ll feel na kayang kaya natin yan.  If you need some instructions on how to install NuffNang on your tumblr - let me know.  I can do a quick post about it.

“Nuff Nang” is a Jafaikan word that means “Real Good or Real Cool.”

No, not Jamaican, Jafaikan!

Jafaikan is the word on the streets of young London.
