Trying Out Churp Churp PH (Earn from Tweets)
I just got this email from Nuff Nang blogger network about Churp Churp now expanding to the Philippines. I recall hearing about this before so might as well try it to see how it works.
No campaigns yet so the only way to see how to monetize this is to participate in the member get member thing that they have going. The site gave me the link to refer people but I guess its still buggy coz when I click on Dashboard it brings me back to authorizing my twitter and facebook. Then it asks me to create my url, but I did that already. If I click on the logo, I go back to the main page where I can click on the invite friends thing. But when I click on that, I see the share thing plus at the bottom the same form I filled up a while ago but its blank. Hmmm… I’m lost here.
Upon reviewing the site, it gave me a generic link with no unique identifier so I figured maybe they’ll track the referring link. But then again, how can they identify that link as mine if I posted this link on another site other than my twitter or facebook. There are 6 ways to spread the word and I tried the tumblr one but it also posted a generic link. I wonder. I’m probably old school but I do find comfort in seeing that the link has a unique identifier for me.
Here’s the generic link:
http:// ph.churpchurp.com//share/invite-friends-to-churpchurp-today
I figured maybe I should share the link they asked me to make as my personal social share url:
http:// ph.churpchurp.com/share/arnimation
But when I tried that link on a different browser (replicate new user clicking on it), it just opened the page to sign up today. I looked around the address bar and no identifiers of any sort. Interesting. This might not be it.
Anyway, just when I was about to give up… I gave it another shot. You need to complete every step. It will not progress automatically, you need to do it yourself. So there. Here’s the link:
http://ph.churpchurp.com/arne/share/invite-friends-to-churpchurp-today
And there’s my unique identifier. My name is now in between .com/ and /share. Somehow the arnimation got taken, dunno how that happened coz first time I filled it up with arnimation it worked. A bug? Even my twitter account can’t connect.
Hope they can fix it and make it more obvious especially for people like me who prefer to discover that to read instructions (*wink) I’ll try it again some other time.
Oh and this isn’t new… there are existing sites out there that also tries to monetize social media for the social peeps. There’s Sponsored tweets for example. Probably one of the first and was even used by the top celebs to milk the social web.
Cool right?

I just love the way this video was laid out. It’s very true nowadays that sometimes we get way over our heads just to come up with that one integrated viral campaign. Ha ha ha.
Coca-Cola’s “Fans First” Approach is Social Communities
Coca-Cola’s group director for worldwide interactive marketing Michael Donnelly shares this presentation about their strategy “Fans First” when it comes to social media/communities. A lot of interesting things that you can pick up from this presentation. I guess more brands are now jumping in to social space with a more open approach. Starting conversations… casual responses, reacting on the fly and most important.. no BS. *wink
The key with social media is to fail fast, fail forward and fail better.
McDonald’s Social Media Strategy
Part of their key learnings is ‘walking before running’ which was further explained with the importance of coming up with the right strategy vs leaping into tactical activations. I totally agree!
After reading a couple of social media articles and presentations such as this, a few key learnings kept popping up so here’s a summary. Hopefully this can kick off your social media adventures as brands:
- Listen
- Enable participation, feedback and conversations
- React quickly and keep it casual
- Keep an open mind
- Collaborate - internally and externally
- Fuel the discussions
Bottom line : Develop a relationship. Just like any other relationship, it’s built on the fact that both parties are already at least interested if not care for each other. There will be disagreements/arguments but we all know that with some honest and genuine efforts we all end up patching things up. And you know what happens after….
Anyway, hope this helps. What do you think?
Google Social Circle Search. YEY! They’re launching it this week. Quick summary: It basically adds results from your social networks (you have to allow google first) to your search queries on google (assuming that you are logged in). Waddup?
